Detector Dog Training Programs
Bio Security
IDA Bio Security programs protect the economy, environment and people’s health from pests and disease. It involves the prevention of pests and diseases from entering environments and supporting the control if outbreaks occur. While robust response arrangements are in place to combat outbreaks, preventing pest and disease incursions with detector dog barriers is extremely efficient and effective. As with all our programs the dogs are located at high risk pathways to ensure measures are maintained.
Border/National Security
IDA plays an important role in protecting Australia and international borders from the entry of illegal and harmful goods. Detector dog teams are trained to search illegal contraband in luggage, parcels, mail, cargo, vessels, vehicles, aircraft and on people. These programs consist of border searches between countries for all agencies responsible for the countries border security, such as, Army Police and agencies alike.
Humanitarian Canine Program
In response to natural disasters such as Haiti and ongoing humanitarian programs such as demining, trained detector dogs are a key element of these programs. Due to their adaptability and vast clearance coverage they are one of the most effective tools in each operation. Search Programs
Dog teams are trained to carry out duties involving tracking, searching, criminal apprehension, drug detection and explosive detection. Our search programs play an important role in assisting to keep communities safe. The natural instincts and abilities of a working dog to follow a track or locate a hidden/lost person, animal or object supports and enhances modern technology tools, forming a fully integrated program.
Program Enhancements
IDA provides specific training platforms based on department request for enhancements to their canine operation. Such projects can focus on:

- Operational deployment strategies
- Officer recruitment and selection, breeding stock, etc.
